Edward C. "Red Ned" Strong

Edward Callahan Strong, better known as "Red Ned," served as both sheriff and county judge of Breathitt County during the 1800s. He was the son of William Blackburn (Jr.) and Jemima Deaton Strong.

Red Ned was a candidate and a principal character in the troubled election of 1878, which resulted in the electing (by eight votes) of Judge John Burnett and his murder, which followed. He was also a first cousin to Captain Bill Strong.
