Another scene of "Devil's Backbone", a nickname for the Panhandle. Railroad tracks that had once led to lumbering operations at Camp Christy on the Strong Fork of Frozen had just been taken up when this photo was made about 1920. The famous loop made here by the river formed the Panbowl. In earlier times a shaft had been cut through the solid rock of the Panhandle and a mill had been located here for probably fifty years until about 1912. This whole section of the Panhandle is today removed and Highway 15 runs through. Panbowl lake was formed in 1963 by dams placed at either end of the Panbowl.
