Jackson's first depot is shown about 1910. Located in South Jackson, it was the social center of the town when trains arrived from the Bluegrass. From 1891 until 1912 it was the end of the line. During those twenty-one years Jackson became a boom town. With the extending of the rails in 1912 to McRoberts in Letcher County, Jackson's economic importance lessened.
