Deeply regret to inform you that Sgt. South McIntosh, Machine Gun Battalion, officially reported killed in action July 20.
Harris, Acting the Adj. Gen.
McIntosh was a son of "Ferrell" McIntosh, deceased, of Troublesome, and was attached to the regular army.
Another Breathitt boy, Jesse Carpenter, of Lambric, was killed in action while fighting at the front in France, several days ago.
The following casualties are reported by the Commanding General of the American Ex. Forces:
Missing in Action: Robert W. Hill, Guerrant, Kentucky and Price Roark, Noctor, Kentucky.
Wounded Severely: Corp. Jesse Center and Charles Chapman, both of Lost Creek, Kentucky.
Elisha Burns, of Buckhorn, Kentucky, is a prisoner in the hands of the Germans, and is confined in Camp Rastatto.
Frank Smith, the well-known janitor at the city school, has received a telegram from the Adjutant General of the United States Army to the effect that "Willie Smith was severely wounded in action on the 23 of July," and that the department has no further information. This may mean Frank's son, Charley, but as there are other Willie Smiths', we are publishing this note to inform all by the name of Smith of the circumstances.
