Jackson from the Panhandle about 1912. In this view we see much of Jackson which was destroyed in the Halloween Fire of 1913. The fire started in the Thompson Hotel which can be seen along Broadway Street in the left center (the building with the straight back beside the white house with porch). The three churches seen at left also burned as did most of Broadway Street and parts of Main Street. Nearly forty buildings burned. At right above the bridge to South Jackson may be seen the Swann-Day Lumber Company. And just barely we can make out the lumber camp's workers' homes in a line just above the lumber company. The long building near the bridge was the armory, later a skating rink. This image was taken from an old glass slide in the my collection.
