A rare view of Jackson from near the Indian Post Office on the Panhandle. The large white ring is really a baseball field surrounded by a cloth fence! Fans are sitting on bleachers and one team is in the field. The baseball game was being played in the area then called the Hargis Bottoms, just behind Judge James Hargis's house. Today, this is the location of Breathitt High School and its football field. The large building just above the field is Lees College. Note its tower is different. It was replaced some seventy years ago. Look at the string of lumber camp houses over in South Jackson, near the Swann-Day Lumber Works.
