Born December 14, 1825, Captain Bill Strong went on to become one of Breathitt County's most famous characters. He served in the Civil War for the Union Army in three units: Company D, 6th Kentucky Cavalry; Company K, 14th Kentucky Cavalry; and Company E, Three Forks Battalion, Kentucky State Troops Proper (the Home Guard). This is the only known photo of the Captain in existence, probably taken (staged) some time after the Civil War ended. |
