A house is about to hit the bridge at Quicksand during the great May 30, 1927 Flood. The water was not finished rising. See the white "x" marks where the flood finally halted. Because the flood happened after gardens were planted, it is remembered as the most damaging flood in Eastern Kentucky's history. Many homes were lost.
