An early sawmill is pictured about 1940 located along the North Fork of the Kentucky River at the mouth of Miller's Branch. Today Highway 15 goes right over this location at the southern end of Panbowl Lake right in front of the E. Turner Branch of the Citizens Bank. In the empty bottoms in the background are today located LBJ and SMS schools. Note the snow, the mules and the cars. Looks as if old Highway 15 was snow-covered and slick. In the 1950s a small gas station was built on this location. I think it was operated by L. Morgan.
