Residents of South Jackson were cut-off from downtown Jackson for several months in the early 1980s while a new bridge was being built across the Kentucky River. A swinging bridge was opened only for walking. Drivers had to detour across Town Hill. Thus to get to Broadway Street in Jackson to Armory Drive in South Jackson a distance of over seven miles had to be covered by way of old Highway 30.
