The Harvest Festival, held at the Robinson Substation at Quicksand, was a big event from the late 1920s until World War II. Farmers and craft people from several mountain counties brought their products for show and sale. Here we see fair-goers gathered in the big field which once held the large sawmill operation of Mowbray-Robinson Lumber Co. Part of the old store (the back part) still stands in Quicksand. It is all that remains from that era of the community's history.
