Dr. E.O. Guerrant Photos

Note: Dr. Edward O. Guerrant, a noted Civil War soldier and later famous minister, visited Breathitt County many times in his career. In his very interesting book, "The Galax Gatherers", he tells about many of his experiences in Breathitt County. The book is rare, but well-worth the trouble of searching out at larger regional libraries. Lees College Library did have a copy and probably still does. During his travels into Eastern Kentucky, Dr. Guerrant often brought his daughter Anne. She brought her camera and recorded many interesting scenes on film. Several years ago (about 1966), when I was a student at Lees College, she shared her old album with the college. Luckily some of the old prints were copied before the album was returned to her. Below are some of those copies. (Because some were copied as slides, they have discolored in the last thirty years to a brownish picture. However, they were all large black and white photographs.) I have tried to locate the old album a few times. However, I am sure Anne (Greene) is now deceased and the album has probably been passed on to other relatives.
