A rare scene taken on the Kentucky River at Quicksand. The Dumont Dam (made of logs) once blocked the river near Quicksand to provide a deep pool of water for the logs being worked at M-R Lumber Company. This photo shows the dam after the company closed in 1924. When I was much younger (in the late 1950s) I often walked across the river on some of the large logs which still remained of the old dam. Today, few of the logs remain, but some do. The dam was located just below the Dumont Tunnel along the L&N at Quicksand.
