1927 BHS Homecoming (Part 2)

Claude Sallee, president of the Breathitt County High School Alumni Association, reminded the public this week that annual homecoming festivities will be observed at the school here on Saturday, September 3, commencing at 5 p. m.

All past graduates and their families are invited to be present for an evening filled with good times with old friends and classmates.

Featured on the program will be a melon feast, food booths, and entertainment consisting of string music, recordings, folk game-type of dancing, and other wholesome recreation.

To assist in publicizing the coming event, Mr. Sallee has furnished us with more photos of interest to BHS graduates and former students. The larger photograph (above) shows Breathitt High's first boys' and girls' basketball teams, coached by Robert Davis and Principal L. K. Rice in 1927.

The smaller photo (at right) shows the boys team, which defeated Carr Creek in the district tournament and was downed in the regional at Richmond by Red House (or Red Hill).

This team boasted of three brothers: Roy, Jasper, and Herbert Bach. Herbert was said to have been one of the finest basketball players ever seen in the mountains. He was also cited many times for his excellent showing of sportsmanship.

President Sallee, vice-president Flossie Johnson, and secretary Mary Edith Brewer urged all BHS graduates and former students to attend the homecoming, making it the best ever held.
