 Claude
Sallee, president of the Breathitt High Alumni Association, announced
this week that annual homecoming festivities will be observed
at the school on Saturday, September 3, commencing at 5:00 P.
M.
All past graduates and their families are
expected to be present for an evening filled with good times
with old friends and classmates.
Featured on the program will be a melon feast,
food booths, and entertainment consisting of string music, recordings,
folk game-type of dancing, and other wholesome fun.
To publicize the coming event, Mr. Sallee
has furnished us with a photograph of the first student body
and faculty of Breathitt High School (above). The school, consisting
of 24 students and two faculty members, was headed by L. K. Rice,
as principal, and was located at Quicksand. It was organized
in 1927.
Breathitt High School boasted two graduates
for its first commence- ment in 1928, the year after its formation.
They were Roy Bach, Aetna Oil distributor, and Wayne Davis.
Officers of the Breathitt High School Alumni
Association, other than president Sallee, are Flossie Johnson,
vice president; and Mary Edith Brewer, secretary.
