BHS Students In Regional Speech Festival



BHS Honor Students participating in the Regional Speech Festival at Richmond on March 26th were (l-r): Jean Brown, Carol Jean Evans, Wanda Hensley, Wanda Combs, and Mrs. C. E. Brumback.

The four Breathitt High School students received one Superior and three Excellent ratings at the competition.

Jean Brown received a Superior rating for her expository prose, an editorial entitled "Few Eggheads Can Entirely Forgive An Anti-Communist."

Wanda Combs received an Excellent rating for her solilaquie, "Portrait of Monica."

Carol Jean Evans and Wanda Hensley received an Excellent rating in poetry reading competition. Carol read two poems by Lizette Woodworth Reese. Wanda read two by Amy Lowell.

The students were accompanied by Mrs. C. E. Brumback, their speech teacher.

This is the first time that Breathitt High School has been represented in a regional speech festival.
