As many of our readers
know, the community of Quicksand in Breathitt County once was
the site of one of the largest lumber operations in the U.S.A.
From about 1910 until 1924 large mills located in the area cut
millions of board feet of some of the finest lumber ever produced
in Kentucky. From time to time we run photos of that operation.
Above, a group of workers at the big mill at Quicksand stop
long enough for this photo. Notice that each man holds a tool
used in his work. Sorry to say the names of these men are unknown
at this time. We are indebted to Shirley Liedtky, 7215 W. 850
S., North Judson, IN 46366, for kindly sharing this photograph,
taken at Quicksand about 1913. |
